Chicago emcee J.West has always had a love for Hip-Hop but, it wasn’t until after seeing a concert in Chicago that he would write his first rap on the drive home.
West would spend hours in his room, working on his craft and eventually releasing his first project titled My Life EP (released September 19, 2014). Shortly after its release, West decided to take the music to a higher level by moving from a small town in Indiana to the city of Chicago. Here he would release his first album titled Destination Famous on March 7, 2017, telling the story of his relentless determination and drive to make it in the music industry. This led West to be the opening act for artists like KR and Hi-Rez, as well as a small tour that would later be the inspiration for his latest album Somewhere In America that would garner over 100,000 streams.
Drawing influence from artists such as Kanye West, Naughty by Nature, and Jay-Z. West has combined his love for old-school rap and biographical lyrics with new school sounds and melodies to make a unique sound that is nostalgic yet modern at the same time.
